Description of Solution

This solution provides the ability to create an IP Phone Service that links directly to the Personal Address Book (PAB) service passing along the User ID and PIN to provide automatic login.

This solution (and scenario discussed below) is idea for the following scenario:

  • Company or Department looking to share a common Directory that is:
    • Searchable (like the Corporate Directory)
    • Maintained via a single account linked to Personal Address Book
    • Ability to specify more than one number for a searchable Contact
  • Assign the common Directory to a logical grouping of IP Phones accessed either by the Services button or a Speed Dial Service URL assigned to a line appearance on the IP Phone.

This solution is to not be mistaken as a replacement for system wide Abbreviated Dials that are provided in traditional PBXs.

Technical Requirements of Solution

This solution has been confirmed and is provided for those utilizing Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6 and 7

The scenario discussed below will show how to do the following:

  • Create an IP Phone Service directly linked to PAB
  • Create a Phone Button Template with a line designated as a Speed Dial Service URL
  • Subscribe an IP Phone to the newly created PAB IP Phone Service
  • Assign the new Phone Button Template to the IP Phone subscribed to the PAB IP Phone service
  • Assign the PAB IP Phone Service to the Speed Dial Service URL for direct linking to PAB via a 'Speed Dial'

Note: This solution example discusses only the Administrative (CCMAdmin) part of setting up PAB in the manner discussed above and nothing else regarding PAB. It is assumed the individual utilizing this will have common knowledge of PAB and how it works.

  1. Create IP Phone Service directly linked to PAB:

    5. Save (or Subscribe) and Close out of the Phone Service Subscription window to go back to the IP Phone Configuration Page
  4. Assign the new Phone Button Template to the IP Phone subscribed to the PAB IP Phone service:
